« on: November 22, 2021, 04:52:20 PM »
Saw a lot of crew working on North Ave. yard off of Kennedy by Morton Salt. Are they laying new yard track or ripping it up?

Crains Article on Tank Car Storage fight

THey seem to be storing unused tank cars to get revenue. I've seen the storage up by their industrial trackage they service out by O'Hare off of York Rd.

I was driving down Kingsbury this weekend and noticed a gondola on the street trackage by General Iron. Did not get a picture. I was wondering if it was a stranded rail car or if the bridge was working again?

General Discussion / Milwaukee North Grayland Station Spurs removed
« on: August 25, 2015, 10:20:03 AM »
Passed Grayland Station going into City this morning on the Milwaukee North line. The Spur was being torn up that was a team track. Looks to be permanent as they are removing the switch there. Last delivery was the transformer for the ComEd substation several years ago.

General Discussion / Re: North Avenue Yard Relatively Dead...

Chicago Terminal engine was busy at 7:30 this morning cutting off 4 hoppers and pulling them into the yard from the lead track going to Morton Salt so that it could get to the two center beam cars of lumber going to Big Bay I assume. Not sure why UP had the 4 hoppers and the two centerbeams tied together that far up the track. I have been noticing the lumber loads on the back track lately towards Elston closer to the engine track.

Boy time flies. Passed by there the other day and seeing all the building that has already covered parts of the old rail line leading up to Fullerton and beyond. Seems like not to long ago the new owner was sitting on the spur with his passenger car.

Yes Cragin, couldn't remember so named the closest one. The engine and 3 hoppers in tow were sitting outside the switch which leads down the Cragin line to the bakery. Have noticed lately the loads of lumber have been sitting in the yard awhile before delivery. I wonder if they are having any issues with getting the bridge to open and close properly due to the brutal winter we had?

Yard had a lot of cars in it this morning. Several center beam cars of lumber, also about 7 cars of scrap metal went out last week. Have seen UP delivering to bakery on Weber line several times over the last week. I have noticed a lot of box car traffic for Tribune.

Passing North Ave yard on Kennedy saw the Chicago Terminal switcher working the yard, moving box cars and cars destined for Morton Salt. Looked like they were doing some of the UP work. The center beam load for Big Bay was in the cut of cars so maybe they were just moving the other freight cars to get at what they needed.

Also there seems to be gondolas off the siding by the first scrap yard on the right when you turn onto Cortland from Elston. Wonder if they have started loading scrap metal from that yard also into gondolas? Would be new freight traffic for them.

Passed by Finkl on Tuesday. There were still employees and equipment moving around the whole property. Must be final cleanup of facility although the smoke stack was putting out a lot of steam. Wonder if they would still use this facility for awhile in conjunction with their south side location?

Looks like a ghost town going by it today. There was always some activity going on.

Saw the switcher heading out of the North Ave yard delivering two center beam loads of lumber to Big Bay this morning at 9:35 AM. Smoke stack was kicking out a good amount of smoke as it lumbered down the tracks toward Sipi metals. At least there is still action going on.
